Costa Rica: Monteverde, Arenal, and Playa Hermosa - Part 1
About
As a child I was fortunate to be able to live in many different places, travel extensively, experience different cultures, and enjoy sights and experiences that most people only dream about. Then, at the age of 20, I was introduced to backpacking by my good friend Kim, and a whole new world opened up to me. A few years later I met my life partner, Lynn, who has proven herself up for almost anything I’ve come up with. Over the ensuing decades I’ve been able to indulge my love of travel in general, and backpacking in particular, and been fortunate enough to share many of my adventures with Lynn and our two sons, and sometimes Kim, especially for many of my backpacking adventures. From Karnak to Costa Rica, Marrakech to Mount Rainier, and Skagway, Alaska to Skoura, Morocco, we have wandered the world in search of new adventures. Now having completed my sixth decade, I find that my passion to travel to new places for new experiences remains undiminished, with all that came before merely serving as prelude for what’s to come.
Many years ago I began to keep a travel journal to chronicle my adventures with words and pictures. Some of those adventures are presented here. Most of the entries were written in the moment, and thus are a raw and unfiltered account of my experience at the time. Many of the backpacking posts, especially, were written on a phone, late at night in a sleeping bag, often on the point of exhaustion, and sometimes after indulging in a little tequila, causing me to occasionally wax poetic. I have chosen to present these journal entries only lightly edited, warts and all, as a true reflection of the experience in the moment. Like life, it's still a work in progress.
My purpose in starting this travel blog and sharing my adventures is to hopefully inspire others to break free of the bonds of everyday existence and go out and explore this great big beautiful world we live. I’m also happy to let you live vicariously through our travels.
Welcome to Brian’s Adventures!
